Luton Airport marks 17m annual passenger milestone
London Luton Airport is celebrating a major milestone after serving 17 million passengers over the past 12 months.
Last month - Luton Airport's busiest April ever - saw passenger numbers surpass 17 million over a 12 month period for the first time in its history, as 1.5 million passengers travelled through its doors in that month alone.
April's figures represent a 10.4% increase compared to the same period in 2018.
Research has also shown passenger growth among local residents, as 5 million people who used the airport last year came from the neighbouring counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, which made up 30% of total passenger numbers for the year.
London Luton Airport passengers flocked to popular city break destinations like Budapest, Bucharest and Amsterdam over the Easter period.
Tel Aviv continued to be a popular destination for Luton Airport passengers, as the airport marked the 10th anniversary of EL AL operating there.
In fact, the Israeli airline served its millionth London Luton Airport passenger during April.

London Luton Airport welcomed 16.6 million passengers during 2018 and is in the process of investing £160 million in a transformation programme designed to increase capacity to 18 million by 2020.
