UK commercial property sees increase in lending
A new report has revealed that investment in UK commercial property is on the rise, due to an increase in lending.
According to Cass Business School’s UK Commercial Real Estate Lending Report, commercial property lending grew by 27% during the first six months of the year.
In fact, this percentage made up a total lending amount of £22.5 billion in the first half of the year.
A total of £25.4 billion was invested in commercial property in the UK from January to June 2018. And while this is down 2% on the previous year, it demonstrates the continued popularity of UK commercial property investments.
The first six months of the year saw 53% of lending coming from acquisition finance, while 14% was spent on funding property portfolios.
Ion Fletcher, Director of Finance Policy at the British Property Federation, said: “The UK’s commercial property lending market was “in fairly good shape,” particularly in light of ongoing political uncertainties surrounding Brexit.”
