Super summer at London Luton Airport
London Luton Airport has revealed it saw 1.7 million passengers travel through its doors during August, adding up to a record summer.
The numbers represented a 3.1% increase on 2017. In fact, the airport welcomed almost five million passengers over the course of the three months of summer.
Last month was Luton Airport’s best-ever August – not to mention the 19th consecutive month of more than a million passengers.
On average, 93.4% seats were sold on every flight, making flights themselves busier than ever.
London Luton Airport’s £160 million transformation has seen a revamp to the terminal, new boarding pier and larger security area, all of which has been enjoyed by this summer’s passengers.
The transformation project is due to be completed by 2020, when the airport aims to increase annual capacity to 18 million.
The busiest flights from London Luton Airport for summer 2018 were to Paphos, Venice and Tenerife.
Construction to the Direct Air Rail Transit, set to replace the shuttle bus between Luton Airport Parkway station and the terminal, has now begun. When finished, the DART will run 24/7, transporting passengers to and from central London in less than 30 minutes.
Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: “The ease, speed and simplicity of travelling through LLA has contributed to a record summer at the airport, as well as the wide range of destinations we offer. Our transformation is nearly complete and will continue to support our growth.”
