Luton marks busiest ever June ahead of 80th anniversary
A record 1,562,308 million passengers travelled through London Luton Airport last month during its busiest ever June.
Seeing a year-on-year increase of 4%, Luton enjoyed its 17th consecutive month of welcoming more than a million passengers.
Yesterday (Monday 16 July), London Luton Airport celebrated its 80th anniversary. Since it first began operating, the airport has served an incredible 250 million passengers.
As the airport reaches the end of its £160 million development and transformation programme, it has set its sights on upping annual capacity to 18 million by 2020.
Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: “2018 has already been a fantastic year for LLA, as we have reached significant milestones in our transformation. We have come a long way since the airport first opened in 1938, and we are proud to be recognised as a world-class international airport today. We look forward to joining our passengers, staff and local community in celebrating our 80th anniversary over the coming weeks.”
