London Luton Airport has best September on record
London Luton Airport had its best-ever September last month, seeing more than 1.5 million passengers pass through its doors.
In fact, the figures saw an increase of 3.9% compared to the previous year, and September 2018 was the 20th consecutive month the airport welcomed over a million passengers.
The most popular destinations among September travellers were Amsterdam, Budapest and Bucharest.
Luton Airport is approaching the end of its £160 million transformation programme, aimed at increasing annual capacity to 18 million by 2020.
The multi-million development programme has seen the airport double its retail and dining space and add 30 new stores. New designer stores now open at London Luton Airport include Chanel, Oliver Bonas and Hugo Boss.
Other projects included in the investment programme include a new boarding pier and extra seating throughout the terminal. By the end of the year, London Luton expects its newly-transformed terminal will be fully open to the travelling public, helping passengers to travel through more enjoyably and efficiently.
Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: “Passenger demand for air travel continues to grow, and our transformation will both help to meet this while making journeys easier, smoother and quicker. The opening of the terminal marks an important new chapter in our history, and the benefits will be felt by our passengers, staff and local community alike.”
