Green light for Luton rail link
Green light for £200m driverless Luton Airport rail link
A £200 million rail link, set to connect London Luton Airport passengers with the town’s Parkway train station, are going full steam ahead after receiving the green light this summer.
The new rail link will connect passengers from central London to the airport in just 30 minutes, by providing a speedy transfer of just five minutes from Luton Airport Parkway station to the airport itself.
Luton Borough Council approved proposals unanimously in June and work is due to be completed by spring 2021.
The driverless, fully automated rail link will run 24-hours a day, offering passengers a sustainable and efficient mode of transport to the airport, connecting the airport with central London and providing a park and ride option for local passengers.
Last year, London Luton Airport saw 14.5 passengers travel through its doors and it aims to grow capacity to 18 million by 2020, following the completion of an ambitious £1.5 billion investment programme.
