Glasgow Airport marks busiest weekend of the year

Glasgow Airport enjoyed its busiest weekend of the year so far as thousands of people jetted off on summer breaks on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July.

The airport announced over 200,000 people were due to travel through its doors during the weekend, which marked the start of the school summer holidays in Scotland.

Popular destinations for this year’s summer holidays among Glasgow Airport passengers include Alicante, the Canary Islands, Palma, Florida and Crete.

Meanwhile, city break spots like Paris, New York, Amsterdam, Munich, Frankfurt, Dubai and Rome were also predicted to be popular with passengers.

To cope with the increased passenger numbers, Glasgow Airport announced that more staff would be working last weekend. This helped to ensure all passengers enjoyed a smooth and stress-free journey through the airport.

The airport also organised children’s entertainment and activities to keep younger passengers occupied while they waited for flights.

At the beginning of the year, Glasgow Airport carried out a £1.4 million project to expand its central search security area by 20%. This formed part of a wider plan – totally £24 million in investment. The transformation programme also includes numerous additions to the airport’s retail space, including new outlets from Fat Face and JD Sports.
