easyJet smashes 1m passenger milestone at Glasgow Airport

Europe’s leading airline easyJet is celebrating a major milestone after flying over 1 million passengers from Glasgow Airport in a 12-month period for the first time ever.

With a long history at the airport spanning 22 years, easyJet is the first airline to reach this milestone at Glasgow Airport.

In fact, easyJet’s first ever flight took off from Luton to Glasgow Airport on 10 November 1995.

To mark the occasion, easyJet surprised a Glasgow Airport passenger with free flights just as they embarked on their flight to Alicante, as well as giving out cupcakes to all passengers on the plane.

2017 saw another significant milestone for easyJet’s Glasgow Airport operation, as the airline served more than 30 million passengers from its base there over the course of the year.

Today, easyJet operates 19 routes from Glasgow Airport, with four aircrafts based there.

Ali Gayward, UK Country Manager for easyJet, said: “This is a fantastic milestone for us.  Our first ever flight operated from London Luton to Glasgow and we are really excited to see more passengers than ever travelling with easyJet. We started with fares to Glasgow from £29 back in 1995. Our fares to Glasgow start from £22.49* which is 22% cheaper.

“We have to thank our fantastic customers who travel to and from Glasgow for their loyalty and support.  We remain excited about the future of easyJet at Glasgow.”

Paul White, business development manager at Glasgow Airport, said: “We are proud to help our airline partner easyJet celebrate this remarkable achievement. It was only six short months ago that we were celebrating the news the airline had carried 30 million passengers since arriving at Glasgow Airport in 1995.

“To carry one million passengers in a single year is a fantastic achievement and testament to easyJet’s enduring popularity with our passengers. Congratulations and long may this continue.”

easyJet is now Scotland’s largest airline, transporting almost a third of Scottish travellers. It runs 838 flights in and out of Scotland every week in peak summer months, travelling to 44 airports in 19 countries.

This year will see easyJet increase the number of seats on offer by approximately 5%, reaching more than 8 million.
