Busiest ever Easter at London Luton Airport

London Luton Airport experienced its busiest ever Easter period last month.

The airport enjoyed its 14th consecutive month of serving more than one million passengers as an incredible 1.2 million people travelled through its doors.

The long Easter bank holiday weekend saw 193,935 passengers using the airport, with 51,103 people flying in or out on Good Friday alone.

More good news for the airport came from easyJet and Wizz Air, as both airlines announced new routes set to jet out of London Luton. easyJet will be running services to Palermo and Genoa in Italy, Reus in Spain and Dalaman in Turkey. Wizz Air is set to launch new services to Bratislava in Slovakia and Bari in Italy.

Passengers are enjoying more retail options than ever before when they travel through London Luton Airport – 14 new retail outlets have opened in recent months, including Ted Baker, Hugo Boss and Oliver Bonas. The latter is the first-ever airport store for the major retailer. By the end of the year, 30 new stores will have opened in the terminal, as part of the airport’s £160 million redevelopment programme.

Other projects in the investment programme include an expanded terminal with more seating and boarding gates.

Nick Barton, CEO of LLA, said: “This is a really exciting time for the airport, as we come towards the culmination of our transformation and celebrate our 80th anniversary. People can now visit over 130 destinations from LLA and new shops and restaurants mean our growing number of passengers have even greater choice when travelling through the airport.”
