New destinations added for Glasgow Airport passengers

More and more destinations are being offered to Glasgow Airport passengers as the airport continues to go from strength to strength.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will launch two new destinations available to passengers next summer – from summer 2019, customers will be able to fly directly from Glasgow to Bourgas (Bulgaria) and Izmir (Turkey).

Following the launch of services to Kos and Naples recently, this brings the total number of destinations available to Glasgow Airport customers up to 33. This amounts to a total of 950,000 seats, which is a capacity increase of 11%.

The two latest routes will kick off from May 2019, when Jet2 will launch a weekly service to Bourgas on a Tuesday. And passengers are in for a treat, as the Bulgarian destination offers miles of beach along the Black Sea, with a host of hotels surrounding resorts like Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Obzor and St Vlas.

The addition of Izmir, Turkey, is down to passenger demand for this up-and-coming package holiday destination. There will be a weekly service to Izmir from Glasgow, operating on a Thursday, opening up a host of resorts to holidaymakers, including Kusadasi, Cesme, Ozdere and Seferihisar.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “We are extremely excited about our Summer 19 programme from Glasgow Airport, which is our biggest and best to date. The two fantastic brand new destinations announced today give holidaymakers even more choice with our award-winning airline and package holiday business, on top of our other new destinations to Kos and Naples.

“The addition of flights to Bourgas means we will operate to Bulgaria for the first time, and with resorts such as Sunny Beach on sale, we are expecting it be hugely popular with local holidaymakers. Turkey continues to see huge demand, so we are opening up more resorts on the west coast of this fantastic country, by adding flights and holidays to Izmir. We are hugely excited about Summer 19 when we will have thousands of 2-5-star hotels and a fleet of aircraft full of happy holidaymakers enjoying the VIP customer service that Jet2.com and Jet2holidays delivers.”

Glasgow Airport’s commercial director Francois Bourienne said: “Jet2.com’s decision to introduce a further two new holiday routes in 2019 to Bourgas and Izmir is fantastic news.

“Bourgas is the gateway to the Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach, which is a very popular destination with our passengers.

“We are also thrilled to add the brand new Izmir route to our busy destination list.  This stunning coastal destination based on the Aegean coast is Turkey’s third largest metropolitan area, so it’s perfect for both city breaks and beach holidays.

“Today’s announcement follows Jet2.com’s recent decision to base a seventh aircraft at Glasgow Airport from next year and further underlines the airline’s continued commitment to providing the Scottish holidaymakers we welcome through our doors each year even greater choice.”
