April was another record-breaking month at London Luton Airport as it saw 1,385,849 passengers travelled through its doors, making it the busiest April on record.
The figures represented a 3.3% increase compared to April 2017, as well as the 15th consecutive month to see more than a million passengers pass through.
Wizz Air, which launched a base at the airport earlier this month, added a fourth aircraft to its fleet at London Luton during April, as well as introducing the UK’s only low cost direct flight to Albania.
Work also began on the Luton Borough Council funded Direct Air-Rail Transit (DART) project, which will connect passengers to central London.
LLA is also approaching the end of its £160m transformation programme – already, 18 new retail outlets have opened since the start of the year, as well as the first of eight new boarding gates.
Barry Hunter, CFO of LLA, said: “April was an important month in our journey to become a world-class airport. We welcomed more passengers who were able to enjoy our enhanced retail experience, and we celebrated the launch of new routes from Wizz Air. This month we’re delighted to celebrate with Wizz Air as its UK subsidiary began operations from LLA.”
