London Gatwick Airport continues to go from strength to strength and has announced more than 1,200 job vacancies.
The news is a further boost to the local community and economy as the airport prepares for its busiest ever summer.
Over 800 jobs are on offer in the airport’s shops and restaurants, with WH Smith, JD Wetherspoon, Boots, Starbucks, Monsoon and Fat Face among the retail giants currently recruiting.
More than 400 ground handling positions are also available – the successful candidates will offer assistance to passengers checking in and loading/unloading luggage and cargo. Companies recruiting for these roles include DHL, Menzies, dnata, Swissport and Airline Services.
Gatwick contributes £5.3 billion in GDP and supports 85,000 jobs nationally, including 24,000 jobs within the airport itself.
Head of Retail at Gatwick Airport, Rachel Bulford, said: “It’s great to see, once again, so many job opportunities opening up throughout our retail and restaurant offering at the airport. These roles will help to ensure we provide excellent service in all our outlets as passenger numbers increase over the busy summer period.
“A large proportion of our staff are based in the surrounding counties, making Gatwick one of the largest economic drivers for the South East region.”
DHL’s Vice President of Operations, Spencer Conday, said: “We are pleased to be working with Gatwick Airport on our strategy for 2018 recruitment. By combining our efforts we hope to attract the best talent for a number of exciting jobs and career opportunities at the airport and ensure customers continue to receive great service.”
